Part
of the $1.0 billion Los Angeles Central Library Redevelopment
Plan, this plan included Library Tower, Gas Company Tower, the
Bunker Hill Steps, Upper Hope Place, and the relocation of the
main Downtown electrical substation. This also provided the majority
of funds for the restoration/expansion of the Central Library,
and the recreation of the historic West Lawn Gardens with dozens
of pieces of art, over a six level parking garage. As one of the
earliest members of the Maguire Thomas Partners team, Anderson
became the Project Executive of Library Square.
Library
Tower (U.S. Bank Tower), a 73 story office tower with adjacent
retail, was designed by I.M. Pei & Partners. Gas Company Tower,
a 54 story office tower, was designed by Richard Keating of Skidmore,
Owings & Merrill. Frank Stella's "Dusk", one of
the largest known murals, sits on an adjacent building facing
the lobby. The Bunker Hill Steps, designed by Lawrence Halprin,
connects Bunker Hill, the Library and financial district.
