Plaza
Las Fuentes was conceived in 1984 as a partnership with the City
of Pasadena to be the catalyst project to improve the City's Civic
Center. As an executive with Maguire Thomas Partners, Anderson
worked to see that this elegant mixed-use project comprised of
a hotel, office and retail space adjacent to the historic City
Hall was completed in 1989.
Anchoring
the project is an elegant courtyard and garden designed by Lawrence
Halprin which includes multiple fountains and hand painted tiles,
all in the historic style of the area. The original project's
buildings were designed by Moore Rubel and Yudell, including a
350-room hotel (Westin Pasadena), an eight story 160,000 sq. ft
office building, and retail / restaurant amenities.
The
combination of outstanding building quality and amenities worked
well to be the genesis of the improvement of Downtown Pasadena
and earned Plaza Las Fuentes the Los Angeles Beautiful Landscape
Architecture Award in 1993.
